Biography

„Magician at the Piano”

Hannoversche Allgemeine Zeitung

With „nuanced sensitivity, radical ecstasy and astonishing technical virtuosity“ (Süddeutsche Zeitung) the pianist Fabio Martino stands out on the international music scene through his interpretations, which are loved by audiences and highly praised by critics. His new CD releases regularly reach the top 10 in the “Top Album Classics” charts and receive top marks and awards from leading international magazines.

His open-mindedness and versatility are reflected not only in his discography, which already includes seven albums, but also in the selection of repertoire. As soloist, Fabio Martino plays the piano concertos of the most famous composers such as Prokofjev, Rachmaninov, Beethoven, Mozart, Gershwin, Tchaikovsky, Ravel, Bartók and many others in major concert halls around the world. In addition, he also knows how to inspire the audience with less frequently performed works, for example by Villa-Lobos, Medtner, Guarnieri or Mignone.

In 2024, Martino will release two new albums: a solo album with works by composers Nikolai Medtner and Sergei Bortkiewicz in co-production with German Radio SWR and an album with the State Symphony Orchestra of Sao Paulo (OSESP). This CD will be released by NAXOS and contains the four “Fantasias Brasileiras” as well as the “Burlesca e Toccata” by the composer Francisco Mignone.

Martino has already shown his skills and his special stage presence in various theater, film and TV productions as well as LIVE recordings for the SWR, BR, NDR, TV Globo and the BBC, among others. On behalf of ARTE and ZDF, he recorded the music for the silent film “Beethoven” in 2020.

Critics already mention Fabio Martino in the same breath as Nelson Freire, Martha Argerich, Claudio Arrau, Sviatoslav Richter and even link him with Vladimir Horowitz.
